Photos above: We’ve started trail running in a beautiful desert preserve near us called Usery Mountain Regional Park. This is a photo of us after a wonderful morning run: Jeff 6 miles, Farraday 5 miles.

In January 2012 we were in San Antonio, Texas visiting Jeff’s All-American Runner daughter Lauren. The three of us ran the Too Cold to Hold 5K, where Jeff, paced by his amazingly fleet daughter, came in 1st in his age class (with a time of 22:30) and 9th overall, out of hundreds of runners! Watch out for that guy!!  Farraday came in 5th in her age class.

Photos below: On New Year’s Eve 2011 we ran the Gilbert 5K Resolution Run (3.1 miles). Jeff came in 3rd in his age class! Farraday did respectably at 5th, again, in hers.

Les Lawrence, teapot, thin-walled hand-built porcelain

Jaye Lawrence, Standing Figure #1, clay, wood, wire and paint, 18 x 5 x 8”, 2001

Aside from the few frost nights, this winter has been mild and great for the garden. We’re harvesting snow peas, kale, lettuce, chard, carrots and other winter vegetables.

Left: morning light in the lettuces, chard and arugula.

Center: our two-year-old tangelo tree had it’s first fruit (a crop of two!) this year.

Right: garlic, mulched by the leaf litter of the peach tree overhead.
